- Four Essentials of Spiritual Practice
- -an abstract of William's new book

The spiritual life in Christ is an inner process of gradual
transformation of consciousness and behavior based on a faith relationship with God in
Jesus. The constant witness of tradition and personal experience demonstrate that, in one
form or another, there are four essential practices through which the transformation into
the image of Christ takes place. These personal spiritual practices presuppose that the
seeker is living as a responsible participating member of a church community.
THE JESUS PRAYER This practice of the
"prayer of the heart" will be presented as an embodiment at the level of
devotional practice, of the all-pervasive and all-encompassing personal relationship with
Jesus at the mystical level of being. |
LECTIO DIVINA A study of this classical condition. A very ancient art, practiced at one time by all Christians, is the technique
known as lectio divina - a slow, contemplative praying of the Scriptures which
enables the Bible, the Word of God, to become a means of union with God.
|
DISCERNMENT Both the
physical world and the spiritual world enter human experience only as they are thought by
a person. "Discernment of thoughts" is the inner pathfinder for our spiritual
journey and the final arbiter of every good act of the graced human will. |
SPIRITUAL DIRECTION Also called: Mentoring,
Spiritual Friendship, and Discipleship, it is formed when one Christian asks another to
serve as "spiritual elder", or "companion" in Christ. We will study
the components, structure, dynamics, and goal of this relationship in the Spirit. |
William's Spiritual Life Ministry and this web site are dedicated to
helping people understand and practice these Four Essentials of Spiritual Practice. Fr.
William will also offer other valuable doctrines and practices that help us to understand
and practice the Spiritual Life Christ. |
